Use this quick guide to conduct a successful idea generation exercise with SuperBrainstorm:

Step 1: Start a Project

  • From the Projects page, click to start a new brainstorm project
  • Give the project a name and then take a moment to describe the exercise. Participants will read this description to understand the kind of ideas you are looking for.
  • Enter the number of ideas that each participant should contribute.
  • Do you want these ideas to be anonymous? Check the box to hide the participant's name.
  • For security you can also define a code. Participants will need to enter the code to participate in the exercise.

Tip: Customize how you collect ideas by clicking the purple "Collect Ideas" bar:

  • Adjust the number of ideas to collect
  • Select the idea entry layout - either paginated or all entries on one page
  • Select the end date or time (if desired)

Step 2: Engage Participants

  • Copy the link that points to this brainstorm and share it with your team, group, class or network

Step 3: Analyze & Distill
Once participants have contributed, you are ready to prepare for the vote by combining repetitive ideas or blocking some that you want to exclude.

  • Click the Analyze & Distill button from the toolbar
  • Use the links along the left to isolate common ideas
  • Consolidate ideas by checking the box next to the ideas that you want to combine, and press the Consolidate button at the bottom.
  • Enter a name for the new consolidated idea on the screen that follows

Step 4: Vote
Participants are now ready to select the best ideas.

  • Click the "Vote" bar
  • Choose the number of ideas that participants should select
  • Select an end date or time for the voting phase (if there is one)
  • Press save and then again copy and share the link so participants can vote

Step 5: Share the results
Everyone has voted and the results are in. The tally will appear in the SuperBrainstorm console. Click the "Results" bar to activate the results phase. Once again copy and share the link so participants can see the voting results.

Step 6: Close the Exercise
Once the results are reviewed, maybe you've organized them on the included idea board or exported them to pdf or Google Docs... now, you can finally click the "Closed" bar to close the brainstorming exercise to participants.
